Stormboy's Admech Army Log - formerly Painting Challenge!

Skitarii and Cult Forces are primed and need painting. I will be focusing on a simple Stygies theme - black cloaks and red armor with brass/gold trim.

Now that is a metric butt-load of resin, right there.

That is all plastic.

Not one ounce of FW resin. This is all GW plastic.

Oh. Can I still describe it as a "metric butt-ton" though?

'Cuz that's just fun to say.

I have been working on slapping the first coat on these fools whenever I can. Got the cloaks/robes with dark reaper and putting s base of Mephiston red on the armor. Then I will focus on individual units and try to finish a unit at a time.

Dune Crawler is the first on my list for painting. Second coat of red and a heavy metallic brush on the worky bits. Next step will be the brass edging, touch ups, and highlights. Then some weathering and getting this guy on his giant base.

I'm really digging these models and am patiently waiting to see how they turn out.

The McKay Child took a 3 hour nap and I spent 3 hours painting!

I focused my attention on the Dune Crawler so that I could get him on a base. I assembled his little feet and armored greaves tossed another coat of Mephiston Red and touched up the metallic colors. I have a bunch of detail to take care of... but I wanted to get this force to a playable state first and then go back and detail each unit one at a time.

Image

Additionally, I have been brassing up a bunch of the cool decorative edging on loads of units.

Currently, the Breachers/Destroyers are up next. They have their second coat of red and their metallic started. . There is a load of detail that needs to be addressed on these models before I can move on - but they might be my favorite models that GW has produced in forever.

After the Tracked dudes, I have a squad of Dragoons to paint. They have a first coat of red and a solid metallic drybrush. I needed to finish their greaves and tonight I will put them on the Dragoons and hopefully get some additional paint on them as well.

There has been progress. I don't think anything is 100% at this point, but I have 3 units mostly done... at least as done as they are going to get until I go for the final details (lenses, AdMech symbol, wires)

Sicarian Infiltrators (I love this kit - but I screwed up the heads because I figured I could stick them on without the directions... oh well)

Kataphron Breachers (this might be my favorite kit of all time)

Dune Crawler

As far as July - I now have almost everything assembled for the Admech datasheet from a White Dwarf a month or two ago. I will not build the Knight until I have painted all the foot troops. So I have the Tech Priest, 2 units of Skitarii (Vanguard, Rangers, Sicarian Ruststalkers, Kataphron Destroyers, 3 Dragoons, and 1 extra Dune Crawler) - a total of 31 models. Doesn't seem like a ton - but I am limited to long naps to make significant progress. Once the 31 dudes are done I can assemble and plan the Knight. It will be the last unit for the AdMech Datasheet. But I will still have a few other units to paint once this formation is complete (namely electropriests and robots).

They look awesome Jack. Really coming out great. The tracked dudes are easily on of the better kits GW has put out in a while, and that's saying something since pretty much everything they put out looks good.
