Karl Franz's Pyjama Pals: The Empire - 6/4 more handgunners!

I, like many others, have played and enjoyed the hell out of Total War: Warhammer. I absolutely loved the Empire campaign, and it got me inspired to try my hand at them. I think it'll be an interesting challenge to paint models that aren't sci fi models, and to paint the quartered Talabheim scheme. I got a bunch of the ol' flouncy shirted men of the Empire together and started painting. The idea will be to use them in old editions of Fantasy or The 9th Age. I'd also gladly try Age of Sigmar or Kings of War if someone wanted to give either a go. Anyway, here's my first unit:

This first unit served as a "test model" for the army and I'm not thrilled with how they came out. I got overconfident with Ceramite White and Mephiston Red's coverage over black, and had a hard time getting a truly smooth coat. For my next unit I:
1. Will try the scheme over grey primer
2. Won't batch paint 20 dudes at once, jesus christmas that was a bad idea

Nice! THey look awesome! Nice color scheme! I'm looking forward to eventually bringing their bodies to life to swell my Undead hordes!

Well you're off to a good start! The idea of an Empire's worth of flouncy shirts painted in a quartered scheme, at an SRM pace, with SRM craft, is a pleasing prospect.

That's true of all my armies. Here's my girlfriend's cat Esmeralda chilling out with some of my Ultramarines in progress.

Looks good. What color did you choose for the wood. It's a very pale color, not brown, it is a nice choice.

Thanks! It's Tallarn Sand over Steel Legion Drab. I wasn't gonna do woodgrain on 20 crossbows so I just stuck with a "good enough" inbetween color.

It took a few months, but I finally found the motivation to go back to my Empire. This time I primed grey, which I should have done to begin with. It made things way easier, and I'm much happier with the results! I'm still going for a "good enough" level of painting, nothing quite like my Ultramarines, but I think they'll look great on the tabletop:

Heh. Your "good enough" painting always equals my "I beg you, please tell me this is good, because I spent 308 hours on this one sergeant...and I still need to finish the detail."
"Either way, if you do touch their junk, don't treat it like you want your own treated. Treat it WAY Better."

I just finished up my unit of 12 Reiksguard. I had to mix in some Knights Panther bits because that's just what I have, but I'm pretty happy with the results nonetheless:
