Re: Karl Franz's Pyjama Pals: The Empire - 11/8 so much shit

I played in my first game of Age of Sigmar this weekend! It was fun, and my Great Cannon was so effective I went home and finished painting it almost immediately:

Less effective (but still very cool) were my Captain and Witch Hunter. I love these models, and they stand as great contrasts to one another:

Those Empire quilted puffy pants always crack me up. I bet hip-hoppers start wearing those soon. (If there's still such a thing as hip-hoppers anymore. I'm that out of touch.) "Karl Franz's Pyjama Pals" still makes me chuckle every time I read it, so thanks for that!

That general and witch hunter are really slick models. And you did a great job on them.

Empire's characters have always been where it's at for this army. GW has done a great job capturing a gritty but flamboyant style. I've always especially loved their Priest of Sigmar models. They just ooze character!

Great job Campbell!

Thanks guys! The characters were definitely the driving factor for me getting into this army - the Witch Hunter and Captain are two models I'd had my eyes on for a long time before I ever planned on actually building this force, and I'm really happy with how they came out. I want one of the priests too - the one with a two handed hammer is too good to pass up.

It took a bit, but after catching up from Thanksgiving festitivities I was able to round out the State Troops into a 20-strong block:

And the unit of 20, all ranked up:

Weird round of batch painting this month had me painting 10 Ironsides Handgunners, an Empire Engineer, and a Warrior Priest. Glad they all had a fairly similar color palette! Not happy with the faces on the Ironsides though; the helmets and the angles, plus my brush crapping out really made the faces look pretty poor. I really like how the priest came out though. Anyway, here's my hams:

The Engineer:

They call him Two Hammers Mcree, on account of his two hammers:

I'm playing a game this weekend, and I found I was in need of more Fantasy-appropriate terrain, so I painted up a set of walls and fences! There's some State Troops in there for scale:

Agreed! The different colored field stones in the walls look great.

Thanks guys! They were super easy. Just prime grey, pick out a few stones in The Fang and Celestra Grey, wash em all with Agrax Earthshade and drybrush with a bone color and you're good.

After seeing how well large blocks of handgunners do, I've started bulking out mine:
