The Best of Dorka

Postby stormboy » Thu Jul 25, 2013 7:49 pm

I have been contemplating this for a while, basically in the absence of a gallery I thought I would make a Dorkamorka “Best of Thread.” A compilation of Dorkamorka members 40K builds and painting magic. It is important to realize that many minutes with my wife and cats was sacrificed in the making of this thread.
These are just some of the projects that have jumped out at me and there are loads of threads that were awesome but are now missing pictures and I focused on “Dorka members” so stuff from Trooper and Webghost (Where did he go?) and others aren’t in here… so this is by no means a definitive list of all of the great stuff people have posted on Dorka. I have linked the original thread for each person and I have grabbed a picture to allow readers to go back and scope out some work with relative ease. If you don’t see your name, don’t worry, I have a lot of posts still to work through. I might message people to ask to fix broken threads or help me find old threads.

Any way – here we go on a journey through Dorka past.

Let’s first take a look at Bruce of Bruce. This guy is a hobbyist through and through. While he hasn’t been around much lately, you have definitely seen his work kicking around. His paint brush has helped prepare many of our tables and a few blue IG that show up now and again began their life on his painting table. His orks, Raven Guard, and fantasy armies are beautiful.

Matt Liddic, known as the handle 609th, created a huge army of IG. So much so that Forge World knew his address and never fucked with his shit. He also created some Howling Griffons. Much of his stuff ended up on eBay and I have no idea what survived the ebay sellout once he moved. But these guys were beautiful to behold when he had them.

Alex is our resident smart guy and overall overachiever. He has been our rules judge in many a tourney and his thorough thinking has helped all of us settle rules issues. His Tau, Dark Angels, and Fallen are all armies that are equally beautiful and terrifying to behold. Where have you been Alex?

Exocan, or LGM as many call him, started his life as power gamer. It is true. Now you can find him not painting his Imperial citizens or converting individual characters from his extensive bits box. He finally got his Necron and Tau update and seems to have left 40k for skirmish type Inquisimunda and Necro.

Dylan is our resident hipster. If you have something old and out of fashion, I guarantee that Dylan has 4 of them. This is a man whose spiked Mohawk doesn’t reach the top of his stack of awesome old fashioned goodies. This guy is magic with plasticard and a brush – he can make an army in a weekend and make it spectacular.

DAPatrick is our own podcast killing Canadian. He makes babies in secret, destroys kidneys, and paints like a beast. He introduced himself to us at Danger Planet with his kick ass Dark Angles and then moved on to a giant catachan army. Patrick made the blob squad before it was the cool thing to do.

Tinfoil, as everyone knows, is Fred. Fred converts his entire army. Entire thing. Not joking. This man can turn anything green stuff related into a tentacle or tooth. If he doesn’t like a GW model, he picks up something and voila! it remakes itself into a creepy, crawly, bulbous, fleshy, pulsating beast. Then he will tell you what it represents on the table.

JR is our actual foreign Canadian. He actually has an accent, which makes us completely OK with all foreigners and minorities. We can’t be offensive, we have a French speaker! While he is going around speaking French in America, JR is also creating masterworks on the tabletop, from Thousand Sons to Eldar, his armies are works of art.

Brad is Thunderjaw and Thunderjaw is Brad. That is how it works. If you need something, Brad probably has it. If something is new, Brad probably already ordered it. He probably ordered it from the Warstore. Ask him and he will tell you. If people have played it – so has he. Brad is a rules master and if people have questions during a game you can hear them yelling across the room to interrupt Brad. You can do it too. It’s OK.

Droolbucket is our resident police officer. He is big and loud and crazy. You may have only known him from Malifaux, but once upon a time he played 40k. Over the years, many people have helped him create his army. But don’t get the wrong idea, he has always been able to build and paint his own stuff. He just doesn’t have time in between creating his own personal basketball squad at home.

Mason

Mason is the food expert that everyone needs to know. If you want to find a great meal somewhere - this is the guy to call. In addition to having a handle on all the right foods, he also is meticulous about painting details. His Black Legion follow a clean and clear painting scheme tying them all together. His tyranids follow a clear scheme and Mason spent a lot of time figuring out a scheme and creating just the right painting pallet.
Mason experiments with the new Chaos by adding some Night Lords.

Nice compilation. Most of the stuff I knew about. Some of the stuff I didn't. Consider me enlightened on a few projects.

This is WAY cool, Jack. And the "fluff text" intros are hilarious.

Do we have a "Who we are" link or a bio page or something? We should link to this thread from there.
