You can add anything you'd like (that's a legal option, obviously) week to week. The only exception to that is Heavy Weapons.

If an Infantry unit, which is part of your 750 core, can select a weapon with the Heavy rule/characteristic (don't have my rulebook with me) they have to.

For the reason Mason stated.

So in your above list you can pull the power axes/melta bombs and such, but if the intent is to add a Heavy Weapon team, it has to be included now and is locked in for the league.

Oh, I've definitely thought of making a Scud for my Valhallans, and I've got a Manticore lying around somewhere. That Gorbachev idea though, that's a new one to look into…

The ruling doesn't make sense to me because Heavy Weapons teams are their own unit (albeit a part if a platoon). It'd be like saying you can't add Devestators later in any list...

You are wrong, That is not the rule.

You can add heavy weapon teams to a platoon after.

The rule is that IF YOU CAN SELECT A HEAVY WEAPON YOU HAVE TOO.

so if you add a team to your core list you will have to choose the weapon. Of you don't select a heavy weapon, you will go without. It's really not that confusing or restrictive.

Ah ok. I'm too used to the Krieg lists were normal platoon squads can't even get Heavy Weapons so I was assuming you were referring to the great platoon as a whole.
