I think I'm going to play on Saturday now. I wasn't planning on it but now things are shifting a bit and I feel like I need a full day of 40k.

I don't see a start time anywhere. Maybe just one of those reading comprehension things, IDK.

No, I think you're right... I believe the Eagles opens up at 11. Here's the schedule:

 11:00 - 11:30 Registration
 11:30 - 2:00 Round 1
 2:30 - 3:00 Lunch
 3:00 - 5:30 Round 2
 5:30 - 5:45 Break
 5:45 - 8:15 Round 3
 8:15 - 8:30 Break
 8:40ish - Award Ceremony

It's a long ass day. If people consistently finishing their games early, we can try and minimize the times between rounds. We may also look and see if we can get an earlier start time.

You might want to reduce point size for the next one. 1850 at 2.5 hrs is going to be tight I think. We are in the process of figuring out whether to drop the points for this Nov Standoff.

Points size was a discussion. Personally I'm a fan of 1500p (or even smaller!) but 1850p was what was ultimately determined. View this as more of a 'standard' tourney set up rather than the more laissez-faire, shoot-the-shit, sort of tourney we often have (by all means, please shoot the shit and relax, you'll just have to watch the clock).

Yeah, I'm pretty positive this won't be happening with my army.

I'm not seeing info on this in the packet, the Golden Squig. Is it simply one category for best painted squad or model?

Thanks again for the great day guys, and gal. It was a small turnout but we all had a good time - minus the heat.

Thanks Dorka for a great day of 40K(certainly not my 'Average Joes'.

I'd like to hear how the judges felt the Comp system did and any good ideas to tweak it. As some of you know we are trying to get a system for this Falls Standoff and really want to simplify it from our last rendition.

Also would like to know ideas on point size and round times. Would 1650 at 2:15 be better?

Thanks again guys! (and specifically Alex and Jon for great games)

I think the comp system was a noble attempt by Brad to introduce comp into the event but at the same time counter all the non-comp arguments that people use in tourneys (it's subjective etc.) Basically if you stuck to the template you were fine. For the most part the system worked and we contacted a few individuals and asked them to kind of tone down their lists.

No participate had more than 2 WTF points, which pretty cool. Some lists are of course harder than others but seeing people shy away from the typical power builds is nice.

That being said, from a scoring prospective it didn't work all that well. Because everyone had less than 4 WTF points, everyone received full comp, which made that category a complete wash in regards to scoring. Because everyone essentially received 20% of the final score, the other categories were that much more important and with it's 40%, Battle Points bulldozed it's way through to essentially determine the top dogs of the day.

WTF points were eventually used to settle seeding, and help with some tie-breakers but oddly enough they were never thought to have to flll that role.

What could replace it? Still not 100%. To be honest the organizers providing an outline and basically saying what can and what can't be included in the event did a better job of policing the lists than a score system. It's kind of interesting.

On points and stuff. 1500 points in 2:15. A bit more relaxed and lists need to be tight.

PS I'll post the final scores and stuff soon.

You could easily take the same system and just adjust for comp.... 0 WTF = 20pts, 1 WTF = 15, 2WTF = 10, 3 WTF = 5, 4 WTF = 0. Then you've got a comp matrix that causes separation. I mostly did the "full comp" thing since the WTF concept was experimental. I need to do a few tweaks to it conceptually to adjust some stuff, but over all it worked well in practice.

On points - I personally despise 1500pt games, however I'm a realist and can agree that there's simply too much overhead in 6th edition to do 1850pts. It's doable, but you have ZERO time for chit chat or anything else. We'll probably have to go 1500 going forward.
